I'm Michael Wolfe, and I'm drawn to color, curiosity, texture, and the little things in everyday life that are easy to overlook.

I create abstract and figurative mixed-media paintings using layered materials, found objects, texture, and bold color. I enjoy letting a piece develop naturally, following marks, shapes, and colors to see where they take me.

My sketchbook is where I give myself permission to experiment. It's a place to play with ideas without worrying about whether something needs to become a finished piece. Some ideas stay on the page. Others eventually find their way into my paintings.

When I'm away from the studio, I often take my camera with me. I photograph quiet moments, familiar places, overlooked objects, and whatever catches my attention. Photography gives me another way to slow down and really look at the world around me.

Through painting, sketching, and photography, I'm learning to stay curious and pay attention—to colors, textures, shapes, and ordinary moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

That's what I'm exploring through my work: color, observation, curiosity, and the unexpected beauty of everyday life.

I'm interested in a lot of things, and I don't always see a reason to keep them in separate boxes. Art, photography, music, games, collecting strange objects, or whatever else catches my attention all feed into the same curiosity.

Michael Wolfe | DISTORTED DORK

My work explores the space between the familiar and the unfamiliar.

Through figurative abstraction and mixed media, I combine distorted figures, bold colors, layered materials, and unexpected imagery to create paintings that exist somewhere between recognition and imagination.

Sometimes a painting begins with an idea or feeling I want to express. Other times, I begin creating without knowing exactly where the work will take me. I allow the process to unfold, following the colors, textures, and imagery as they develop. Often, the painting takes on a life of its own, revealing something I didn't anticipate when I began.

I'm drawn to the unusual, the imperfect, and the things that don't quite seem to belong. I enjoy transforming recognizable forms into something unexpected, creating images that feel connected to our world while suggesting a reality just beyond it.

I don't believe every painting needs a definitive explanation. I want my work to invite curiosity, encourage individual interpretation, and leave viewers with something they may not fully understand but can't quite forget.
