Just finishing up........
Just finishing up a few smaller paintings I’ve been working on in between bigger pieces. I’m one of those artists who likes to have multiple projects going at once — it keeps things loose and keeps the pressure off. Staying on a single painting until it’s done feels like too much pressure for me; art should feel fun, enjoyable, maybe even freeing.
My usual rhythm is one large piece alongside several smaller works. Lately I’ve had two bigger paintings on the go plus my usual run of smaller pieces, and it’s been a good shift. The small works act like creative push-ups: short, focused bursts — five to ten minutes — then on to the next thing. They’re an exercise that jump-starts ideas for the larger projects.
I’m also wrapping up a sketchbook I’ve been filling for the past year. This is my third sketchbook in this series, and it’s been a rewarding process. The quick sketches and experiments help me explore color, composition, and mood without committing too much time, and those discoveries carry over into the finished canvases.
Looking forward to sharing some of these pieces from the sketchbook soon. Thanks for following along.
